This week as we look forward to Easter Sunday – a celebration of the resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ – we’re remembering His Life, poured out for us in so many ways. How grateful we are that He chose to sacrifice Himself on the cross, taking the punishment that we deserve, forgiving us and washing us clean from our sins! How can we thank Him enough for His free gift of Salvation?
Jesus’ life here on earth portrayed the very essence of “nurturing” – a word we often associate with motherhood. As a leader and teacher, we see Jesus showing His disciples how to minister with compassion, determination and love. He raised His disciples up to follow His example in their own ministries, encouraging their faith and correcting their mistakes. We also see Jesus nurturing those He ministered to, personally touching their lives with healing and care.
The story of nurturing doesn’t end there! We have received Jesus’ commission to touch our world in the same way He did. We’re reminded of this in John 21:
When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”
“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”
Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.”
As we center our hearts on Jesus’ life, death and resurrection this week, may we remember to nurture those around us the way Jesus did – with grace and compassion.
Happy Resurrection Day from Birthline! Our Savior lives!
